I am honored and humbled to serve as Chair for LPRC for 2016. I am the beneficiary of all those that came before me – dedicated professionals who blazed trails and made it so that Latino professionals like myself had a place in the public media system – a system that is still in need of more Latino talent.
A bit about me: I am currently Managing Director of External Relations and Strategic Initiatives for Southern California Public Radio. In addition to managing the organization’s marketing and communication efforts, my primary focus since 2011 has been leading (and successfully procuring funding for) a multi-year outreach and programming initiative aimed at connecting SCPR with the culturally and ethnically diverse populations in the region – an effort that resulted in exponential Latino broadcast and digital audience growth. Thanks to LPRC, we were able to document the work we undertook and published a Brown Paper that summarizes these efforts. I invite all of you to read and disseminate this information as an example of the work we are continuing to advance at LPRC.
As I embark on the responsibilities of chair, I want to reflect on our mission: to advocate for the inclusion of Latinos in public broadcasting by building partnerships, influencing public and funding policy and providing a clearinghouse of information on relevant and substantive cultural, news, and information on Latino programming. I look forward to working with all of the executive committee, the LPRC board, and all friends and supporters of this mission to ensure we do everything in our power to advance it.
Thank you for your support and participation. As we continue to advance our work during the course of the year, I look forward to providing you with updates on our efforts.
Here’s sending you all my very best wishes.
